- Schools should be about children, but often they are about administration and processes.
- Principals should be instructional leaders, not administration heads. Their main job must be to go into classes and improve the quality of instruction.
- Let’s teach teachers how teachers should teach – if teachers are learning by rote in our D. Ed. And B. Ed. courses, then that is how they will teach.
5 steps for Real Learning
- Objective – plan for each class, and for the whole year
- Experience – lesson plans should be interactive, engaging and experiential
- Analysis – children have an objective dialogue which is reflective in nature, so they understand the experience by questioning and thinking
- Practice – this will vary depending on the pace of the learner, and requires differentiation
- Assessment – test what has been learnt, and if required, repeat some of the steps
