Johnson returns to India (where he spent 12 years of his childhood) after 15 years in Brazil. While in Brazil, he served as the High School Principal at Graded School in Sao Paulo, and more recently as the Headmaster of the American School of Brasilia, Brazil. Mr. Johnson received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Fort Hays State University (Kansas): BA in History and English; MA in Secondary Education and Administration. His roots, as a classroom teacher, are in Middle and High School English and Social Studies. He continues to keep engaged in student life, by coaching soccer, and trying to teach or co-teaching an English class as often as possible. A regular presenter and workshop facilitator on a variety of Leadership and School Improvement topics, Mr. Johnson has also published a novel (Wave Watcher), and has a second novel on the way. He is married to Lisa, and they have three sons. They call Kansas home.

Prior to Akanksha, she worked on children’s programming on Indian television with Neena Gupta (a leading Indian TV producer) for two years. Ruchika managed the Akanksha Art Project as well as Public Relations and Design for three years prior to transitioning to the General Managers role where she oversaw all operations and administration related to the Akanksha centers and programs. She has recently returned to Art for Akanksha as its Director.

He was instrumental in building the concept of a “societal mission” for universal primary education through Pratham.  As President and CEO of the Pratham Education Foundation, he remains central to the functioning of the Pratham network, which covers most of India and has chapters in the US and UK, among other countries.

John has 20 years experience in the UK state education sector, where he was Principle at one of the most improved schools in the country. He was also a School Improvement Advisor for the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and worked with the Department of Education City Challenge Project; raising standards of teaching in 40 schools across London.
